Gill Dental

Pediatric (Children's) Dentistry

At Gill Dental, we love treating children – and it shows! Your child’s oral health is precious, and our goal is to create a positive experience for them that will stay with them into adulthood.

We understand how overwhelming a visit to the dentist can be for a child, but Dr. Gill and our team know how important it is to relate to kids on their own level. If a child is resistant, we’ll approach them gently and take all the time necessary to get to know them and put them at ease.

We Create a Positive Experience for Your Child

Starting your child off with a healthy smile from an early age is one of the best things you can do for their overall health and well-being. The Academy of General Dentistry and the Academy of Pediatric Dentistry both recommend that your child first visit a dentist within six months after the first tooth erupts but no later than their first birthday.

These early exams are primarily meant to help your child get used to all the sights and sounds of a dental office. We focus on getting to know your child to put help them feel comfortable with us. Dr. Gill and our team have found that these visits make all the difference when the time comes to start actual treatment.

Why Early Dental Care Is Important

You may wonder why it’s important to see the dentist when your child only has baby teeth. The fact is that your child’s teeth actually start growing before they're born. Baby teeth hold a place for the permanent teeth, so the early loss of a baby tooth can lead to problems as the permanent teeth start to erupt. Without enough space to emerge properly, permanent teeth may start to tilt and come in at odd angles, possibly requiring orthodontic treatment to correct.

Oral Health Care as Your Child Grows

As your child grows, it’s essential to keep current with preventive treatments like cleanings and exams. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that nearly 20% of kids between the ages of 2 and 19 have untreated cavities. This makes tooth decay one of the most common chronic childhood diseases.

Cavities alone are a big enough problem, but the associated discomfort can also impact your child’s eating and nutrition habits, speech, learning, and even playing. Our goal is to teach you and your child about the benefits of prevention so you’ll be motivated to follow through with important appointments.

Dr. Gill and our friendly team love working with kids of all ages, and we think you'll appreciate the difference every time you visit. We’ll do everything necessary to make sure your child’s visits are fun, comfortable, and enjoyable. Nothing makes our team happier than seeing our youngest patients leave our office with a happy, healthy smile!
